Lone Star Pony Club

Ratings

Ratings reflect the Pony Clubber’s achievements in horse management and riding skills. The Standards of Proficiency and Flowcharts for each level can be found at the United States Pony Clubs' website.

An integral part of Pony Club is goal setting, reviewing, and evaluating progress. Each Pony Club member is responsible for working with his or her personal trainer and attending LSPC meetings to achieve riding and horse management goals. Parents are responsible for arranging for regular riding instruction, helping with reading and written work as needed, bringing the child to meetings on a regular basis, and last but not least, encouragement!

The decision on when the child is ready to “rate up” (move to the next rating level) is a joint decision between the child, the child’s regular horse trainer, and the DC of LSPC. In addition to demonstrating competency in all requirements of the rating level prior to testing, the Pony Clubber must be a “Member in Good Standing” with LSPC. Club policies are subject to change, but generally this means that all local and national fees must be paid in full and the Pony Clubber attended at least 50% of the mounted and unmounted meetings for the six months prior to the rating date.
