Welcome to the Lonestar Pony Club
Lone Star Pony Club in Austin, Texas is a member of United States Pony Clubs, Inc. (“Pony Club”), an educational organization for youth that teaches riding, mounted sports, and the care of horses and ponies, thereby developing responsibility, sportsmanship, moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence.
Pony Club supports the ideal of a thoroughly happy, comfortable horseperson, riding across a natural country, with complete confidence and perfect balance on a horse or pony equally happy and confident and free from pain or bewilderment.
In Pony Club, the word “pony” is used to refer to the age of club member. It means that Pony Club is for all young people under age 25. It does not mean that all of the mounts used by Pony Club members are actually “ponies.” In fact horses of all sizes and breeds are ridden by Pony Club members.
The Three R's
of Pony Club
Lone Star Pony Club encourages members to pursue the “Three R’s of Pony Club” which are: Reading, Riding, and Responsibility.
Reading is essential to obtaining the information required to properly care for and teach our horses and ponies. Much of the pain suffered by our four-footed friends is inflicted through our ignorance. Pony Club provides an education program that promotes consideration of our ponies’ needs and proper ways to meet those needs.
Riding safely and skillfully means that Pony Club members will have a foundation of confidence and ability to enjoy a life-time of riding. Pony Club offers a range of mounted activities so that nearly every Pony Club member will be able to make a start at this foundation.
Responsibility is a natural result of being in charge of the complete care of a horse. Learning to care for your horse properly gives you an opportunity to build a closer relationship with your horse. You will be rewarded with a nicker of recognition, or reprimanded by the pinning back of ears. Pony Club competitions stresses responsibility, sportsmanship, and maturity. All of these characteristics serve Pony Club members in all areas of their life.
